Please do NOT get a Golden labrador.
They are from puppy mills and backyard breeders.

Backyard breeders do not do any health testing, and most of the time the dogs have temperment issues, and a multitude of health problems.

Puppy mills are disgusting, the dogs have no health care, aren't groomed, bathed, exercised, and the mothers are kept constantly lactating, they live horrible horrible lives.
Please look at this article and reconsider getting a Golden Labrador.
http://www.petrescue.com.au/article/672
It will break your heart that you ever considering supporting a backyard breeder, or puppy mill.
References :
First of all there is no such thing as a Golden Labrador.

Both breeds are great hunters, enjoy swimming, and are wonderful with kids, people, and other animals. They are loyal and friendly and make good "alarm barkers".

However, they should NOT be mixed together. They are from two seperate and distinct breeds. Let me elaborate.

Golden Retrievers - In 1865, Lord Tweedmouth purchased a yellow retriever "Nous" from an unregistered litter of otherwise black Wavy-Coated Retrievers. Nous was later bred with "Belle", a Tweed Water Spaniel, and the resulting litter produced four bitches that were instrumental to his breeding program. One of them, "Cowslip," he bred back to for over twenty years. Over the years, several outcrosses, to black Wavy Coated Retrievers, an Irish Setter, and later a sandy-colored Bloodhound occurred as he sought to improve and fix his new breed. The coat textures of the Goldens of this time reportedly varied, as did the color, which ranged from fox red to light cream. The Kennel Club of England accepted the first Goldens for registration in 1903. At the time, they were registered as "Flat Coats -- Golden". By 1904 the first Golden placement at a field trial was recorded. Among the first shown in conformation were Culham Brass and Culham Copper. In 1911, they were recognized as a separate breed, at first called "Yellow or Golden Retrievers," but within several years the "Yellow" was dropped from their name. Oddly enough, the Labrador was mixed in to create the Golden Retriever early on.

The Labrador Retriever - From the St. John's Water Dog two breeds emerged. One, the smaller short-coat retrievers used for retrieval and pulling in nets from the water was the Labrador Retriever. The dogs Avon ("Buccleuch Avon") and Ned given by Malmesbury to assist the Duke of Buccleuch's breeding program in the 1880s are considered the ancestors of all modern Labradors.

So, technically a Golden Retriever is part Lab by a long, long, long line of descendants. But, if you want a mixed breed go to your local animal shelter. Don't promote byb's and puppymills just because you think it would be neat to have a dog with a dumb new name when it's only a mutt.

FYI - Goldens and Labs are both prone to hip dysplasia, as well as elbow/joint/hock problems, EIC, cardiac problems, and progressive retinal atrophy. Thus, if you mix these breeds you can end up with a host of health problems that any single breed alone would not have.
Go to a reputable purebred breeder that has titles and does health certs to ensure that you get a quality puppy.
References :
It's just a badly bred mutt. That's not opinion, that's a fact.

Because only bad breeders with low quality dogs mix breeds, the dog will be highly likely to have hip dysplasia, hyperactivity, and severe behavioural problems (like aggression).

They aren't a "breed". It's a mutt.

If you can find one at a shelter, go for it. Just be sure you know what you are getting into and can afford vet care & training. http://www.petfinder.com to find lab or golden mixes in your area.

If this is a question about purchasing one from a breeder, only a moron would buy a mutt from a breeder for anything more than about $30.

Both Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are great dogs for the right family. They are medium-high energy and have quite a bit of coat upkeep. Because they are so overbred, badly bred ones are prone to the problems I mentioned above.

If you are looking for a GR or Lab puppy (or dog), there are two places to start:
http://www.thelabradorclub.com
http://www.grca.org

Also check out http://www.pbrc.net/breeding3/html to avoid buying a sickly puppy from a puppy mill/byb.
References :
Usually the term "Golden" Labrador is just an incorrect name given to Labrador Retrievers who are yellow. The uneducated tend to call them Golden Labradors.

Hmmmmmmmmmm judging by other answers, maybe I should have added in the UK?
References :
My ex-boyfriend had one as a Guide Dog. He was a lovely animal.

However, he was professionally bred by working dog breeders.

In general, because they are a mixed breed it is hard to determine exactly how they will turn out.

If you are looking for one as a pet, the picture is not so rosy.

Generally reputable breeders do not breed mutts (exceptions as noted above for working purposes). This means people who breed "golden labs" usually use lesser-quality breeding stock, don't do the necessary health, temperament and aptitude testing, and frequently don't really know what they are doing in the first place. This makes it much more likely that the pup you buy will have health, temperament or behavior issues, due to either poor breeding or poor husbandry. Such breeding is also unethical, so you would be supporting such practices by buying such a pup.

I would suggest getting either a Golden Retriever or a Labrador Retriever, from a reputable breeder, instead.
References :
.....Why?

Golden Retreivers and Labrador Retrievers have very similar temperaments. They're both pretty friendly with both people, animals, and strangers. Both are very energetic, very smart, can be stubborn, but really are great dogs. There are plenty of both in shelters (and I'm sure mixes of the two) but with breeders you want to be careful because they share several of the same health problems, of which joint problems are most popular.

They are both (I believe) double-coated breeds, but the most obvious difference between the two is that one has long hair and is..well, golden, and the other has shorter hair and can be yellow, chocolate, or black.

I don't know what the purpose of mixing the two and slapping a "designer name" on it accomplishes--but there's not a lot about these "designers" that I understand.
References :
Well I have one of each. I love them to death they are the best two breeds of dogs I have every had. The lab is little bit more hyper than the golden and the golden is the one that loves to be by people. We are thinking when ours get old enough we would like to at least breed them one time because we feel that there personally mix so well. Great family dogs.
References :
Owner of a 11 Month old Golden retriever and a 10 month Labrador Retriever

I would never ever buy a "Golden Labrador" because that is just backyard breeding. There is no set temperament for them because they are mixed-breeds. Both Goldens and Labradors typically like people, but that is not guaranteed unless both parents are proven to breed standard temperament. I doubt you'll get parents like that with BYBs.
