How can I find information on they types of awards there are available for Yorkies? How can you obtain these? What qualifications should you have?

The most prestigious award for yorkshires is the Swiffer Award. It’s given annually to the yorkshire that’s been judged to be the best dustmop when tied to a stick.

I’m not sure what you mean by awards, but you can check with the AKC at http://www.AKC.com for any specialties.

Yorkies are in many different fields besides just confirmation in the show ring. There are some that are in Agility, some are therapy dogs, and I’m sure I’m just touching the tip of the iceberg.

The AKC has a lot of that information and they also will have the name and address of some one in your area that will know whats around for yorkies…..there is always the dog shows that you can get into through the AKC web sight and the good citizen ship award that any dog can get for being well trained….just type in "canine good citizen award" in any search engine and you will find all kind of sights on it…a good sight for yorkie info. is "all-about-yorkshire-terriers.com" they probably have something on that too…..

Well, yorkies can compete in conformation (must be intact), obedience, agility, rally-o, & tracking. I’m not sure if they’re allowed in terrier trials. They can also test for the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen award. Also, the American Temperament Test Society has a test that your dog can take to earn a TT (Temperament Tested) certificate.

You can find the rules for these events here
    http://www.akc.org/events/index.cfm?nav_area=events

You can also check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America for more information.

Scroll down the menu at the side for "Obedience, Agility, Tracking and other companion dog events"

Except for conformation, your dog can be spayed/neutered and still compete. If it is not AKC registered you can apply for an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege) number to compete in performance events, provided your dog is altered.

I’m answering to the pretentious smart-asses above:
If you don’t want to help JUST DON’T ANSWER!
There’s no reason to be rude and mean!
Maybe you guys qualify for those awards that you mentioned!!
